ADSL Accounts
HandMade Connections offer Internet connectivity solutions to meet all requirements. These solutions range from 1G ADSL broadband accounts to uncapped ADSL as well as diginet leased line solutions. The basic broadband solutions are listed below.
Uncapped Basic: The service is offered in speeds of 384, 512, 1024 and 4096 Kbps. The service allows two simultaneous connections. If used concurrently, the Peak Information Rate (PIR) will be halved between the two connections. The usage is monitored on a rolling 10 day period and does not reset at the beginning of each month. All service options are Unshaped. Should usage remain less than 80% of the average user for each product, the service will remain unaffected. However should individual usage exceed 80% of the average user for each product, then the first level of moderation will be implemented, moving the service to a Shaped service. Shaping or moderation is implemented via download throttling and user relative priority control will first be applied to all file sharing protocols. Should usage remain above the 80% average threshold, additional shaping will be managed via manipulation of throttling and priority control.

What is ADSL?
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a technology that enables an ordinary telephone line to reach speeds exceeding 2Mb/s. The technology transmits data at a high bandwidth rate on existing copper telephone lines to homes and businesses. The ADSL system makes use of your existing telephone line and splits the signal into voice communications and high speed data connection. ADSL is capable of simultaneously offering voice information on the same line. ADSL offers you increased bandwidth. The downstream bandwidth is higher than the upstream (asymmetric).
Being asymmetric, it means that ADSL uses most of the channel to transmit downstream (refers to the flow of information from the requested information resource to your PC) to the user and only a small part to receive information from the user. Whatever level of your downstream, your upstream level is fixed at 256Kbps.
